What is Hemingway?

Hemingway is a theme originally created for WordPress by Kyle Neath.  To use Kyle’s own words: “Hemingway is a simple weblog theme aimed at giving bloggers a great platform on which to customize.”

When I first saw Hemingway way back in 2005/2006, I fell in love with the simplicity and elegance.  This isn’t the first time I’ve ported Hemingway to EE, however it does mark the first public release (a friend wanted to use it for her EE site, so I did a custom port).  Since she’s no longer using the theme, I figured it was time to make it available to all EE users.  Unfortunately, this sat on the back burner for a long while until a recent thread by Steve D (how can you not love his domain?) kinda kicked me in gear to get it done.

So with that said, I’m happy to present the release of Hemingway v1.0 for ExpressionEngine.  Please feel free to head on over to the download page and customize the theme to your heart’s content.  While you’re on the download page be sure to pay attention to the special instructions there.

Enjoy!

Hemingway Updated to 1.0.1

Hello everyone!

Just a small note to anyone subscribed to the feed: Hemingway has been given an update to version 1.0.1.  In this version, I’ve added Captcha support to the comment template for both versions of the theme.  If you wish to add this to your existing installation, just follow the directions below!

In your comments template:

find

{if logged_out}

<input type="text" name="name" id="name" value="{name}" class="textfield" tabindex="1" /><label for="name" class="text">Name (required)</label><br />
  <
input type="text" name="email" id="email" value="{email}" class="textfield" tabindex="2" /><label for="email" class="text">Email (required)</label><br />
  <
input type="text" name="url" id="web" value="{url}" class="textfield" tabindex="3" /><label for="url" class="text">Website</label><br />
{/if}
<textarea name="comment" id="comment" class="commentbox" tabindex="4" rows="10" cols="5">{comment}</textarea>

replace with

{if logged_out}

<input type="text" name="name" id="name" value="{name}" class="textfield" tabindex="1" /><label for="name" class="text">Name (required)</label><br />
  <
input type="text" name="email" id="email" value="{email}" class="textfield" tabindex="2" /><label for="email" class="text">Email (required)</label><br />
  <
input type="text" name="url" id="web" value="{url}" class="textfield" tabindex="3" /><label for="url" class="text">Website</label><br />
{/if}
<textarea name="comment" id="comment" class="commentbox" tabindex="4" rows="10" cols="5">{comment}</textarea>
{if captcha}

<label for="captcha" class="text">Please enter the word you see below:</label><br />

{captcha}<br />
  <
input type="text" name="captcha" value="{captcha_word}" class="textfield" tabindex="5" />
{/if}

Easy fix, so it should go smooth!

About

This is an example block of text, you could edit this to put information about yourself or your site so readers know where you are coming from. You can put anything you want here, just like I am. I'm just filling this with random stuff to display how it looks. This is editable from within your template. Enjoy!
